About Us

Founded in 1971 at the beginning of the northwest glass movement, Glasshouse-Studio is the oldest glassblowing studio in the Northwest. Our team of highly skilled artists bring a wide variety of backgrounds and philosophies to their work. They are committed to their craft, as well as exploring new styles through each other's pursuits.

Internationally Recognized Artwork

Our goal is to create a sanctuary where artists can design and produce one-of-a-kind pieces of art. The work of our artists is internationally recognized in the glass community, and can be found in many of the finest private and gallery collections.

Christopher Sternberg-Powidzki

Christopher began working with the medium of glass at the age of fifteen. "Sterno", as he's known, started his career in glass with an apprenticeship at Thames Glass in his hometown of Newport, R.I. After practicing there, his career took him to Seattle. There, Chris studied with Bennett Jordan and Lino Tagliapietra at Pratt Fine Arts Center, as well as with Petr Novanty at the renowned Pilchuck Glass School. As Head Gaffer and Production Manager at Glasshouse-Studio, he is responsible for maintaining the high standards that we are known for.

The History of Seattle Glass

The Pacific Northwest has gained international recognition as the leading center for the design and creation of hand-crafted glass. The rise of the studio glass movement in America is represented here by a large community of artists working individually or in one of the hundreds of studios found in the region.
